Woooo! Frock Up Friday is BAAAAACCCKKK!! And we had such a great time with you guys last night! We will be doing Frock Up Fridays once a month from now on (now that people are busy getting out and about again!) so keep an eye on the schedule on our website to find out when they are and what's coming up!
Last night we did a little styling sesh (by popular demand!) on Camilla capes and long layers.
Check out the video recap above and on our youtube channel!
Essentially, these capes and layers are INCREDIBLE statement pieces that everyone deserves! But they can be tricky to style.
Key to getting it right is:
1. Fit, and 2. Styling
The long capes and layers are perfect for ANY body type! But they need to be the right height. If you are petite, you will likely need to have your cape or long layer professionally taken up to a) avoid damaging it along the ground(!!) and b) to ensure it fits and drapes beautifully, looks flattering and doesn't swamp you with fabric!
Totally worth it though. And if you're a tall lady, you're in luck because you can pull these off easily!
Heels ALWAYS help. It allows the cape to drape to it's full length, gives the illusion of height and ensures it doesn't bunch up and swamp you with fabric which busies the eye and is distracting and unflattering. It's all about those long, elegant lines in these beautiful capes and layering pieces.
They are also incredibly versatile! Here are our top tips for styling them:
1. With their matching pieces - yes, head to toe, floor-sweeping print! This is by far the most elegant and dramatic of all the looks but it's a must. You don't have to start here. You can start more casually and work your way up to this but please do it at least once in your life. You won't truly appreciate how exquisite this feels until you try it. I can attest and it is one of my absolute favourite ways to dress. The benefits for my self-confidence and mental health are indescribable. I've never felt like more of a goddess than I do when I dress like this. Head to toe, ME. Dramatic, exquisite, unapologetic for who I am or how I want to look. It's a dream.
2. Denim! Always. This is one of our go-to looks and looks incredible. It's also a great way of making these capes and layering pieces look more casual so you can get HEAPS of wear out of it! They are investment pieces so you may as well wear them as often as you can! Especially because they look so damn good so why wouldn't you?!
3. Layered for winter! These capes and layering pieces are thin (being exquisite silk) so they're perfect for those in between months and mild weather but don't forget them in winter! We LOVE LOVE LOVE them layered underneath leather jackets and faux fur jackets for winter. Such a chic outfit but oh so warm! It doesn't have to be one or the other so don't forget about these when the weather gets cool! Layer them up and look DIVINE!
4. Belted! Whether you don't enjoy the volume or not, belted is a great option to mix things up for EVERYONE! But especially for those just getting used to the idea of layers and volume. This can be a great introductory look to define your waist, give you shape and make you feel a little less encased. But we say go for the voluminous, flowing goodness when you're ready! It's a total VIBE!
You can also wear them over skirts, shorts etc but we don't recommend styling over maxi dresses or maxi skirts unless you use a belt to bring all items together at the waist. Otherwise it can be just too much fabric for the goodness of human kind haha! A very simple maxi like the Camilla racer back dresses could be fine under these layering pieces for that dreamy, flowy, boho look. So it's all about personal preference. Have a play with all the great tips we've given you and find out what your personal Camilla cape/layering piece style is! We guarantee you'll LOVE it!!!
