How to wear shearling coats
This one is such a tricky trend! But it's been around for ages and is actually a really classic, wholesome fabric (when cruelty-free!) so it's worth mastering it because it'll be around for years to come.
If you didn't tune in on Friday night for the live styling session on instagram (every Friday night at 8pm ACST) here is the recap:
But here is the breakdown of all of the incredible looks you can create with shearling jackets.
1. The classic casual looks
This is what these jackets were designed for - t shirts, jeans and a classic, casual look that oozes cool and confidence but is so simple to put together and WARM! OK, you've won me over!
You can mix up this look with sneakers for an uber-cool casual look or smarten your casual look with ankle boots or a mule and a smart handbag like the incredible range from Dylan Kain.
2. Luxe casual looks
Silk is a really beautiful complement to shearling so start introducing some silk pieces to give your casual look a little luxe.
3. Luxe luxe looks
Now take things up a notch with a total silk combo underneath...va va voom! This is such a cool and creative look, you will definitely stand out from the crowd in this look.
4. Tonal
Shearling looks amazing when you stick to the same colour palette. The silk combination above is a perfect example of this but play with cotton dresses in neutrals, white jeans and neutral layers and anything else you have in your wardrobe in this colour palette. This look will work with sneakers or heels.
5. Sports luxe
You know we LOVE the sports luxe look and shearling jackets complement that perfectly. Check out our previous blog post on nailing the sports luxe look and then add the shearling coat - you will love it!
6. Boho sports
On Friday night Courtney showed you how cool the shearling coat can look completely layered up over what is essential trackies! Just keep layering on those trackies, with a cool pair of sneakers, throw on the shearling jacket and VOILA! How cool?! We are actually totally loving this look.
7. Over dresses
Shearling jackets look amazing layered over dresses, especially cute spring dresses. It is quite a transeasonal jacket when paired with your cute spring dresses. It will get you through those cooler spring days and also just looks super, super cute.
We also love it layered over maxi dresses and in this instance you can leave it open for a cute boho look a la the spring dresses look or cinch it in with a sleek belt, add a sleek Dylan Kain handbag and ankle boots or heels and you have a gorgeous and quite sophisticated weekend look! With warmth and style. It's great for those winter or spring outdoor lunches where you know you will FREEZE without a fab jacket, or evening events such as outdoor family BBQs or birthdays (for those states that are allowed to participate in those events at present - for the others these shearling coats make fab dressing gowns! Haha! Not even kidding! I have lived in all of my Unreal Fur coats this winter - no tripling of my power bill haha! What I've saved on power I've invested in Unreal Fur coats. No complaints here!!).
8. Belted
The belted look (also shown above) works equally well over almost all of the other looks as well. You can belt your shearling jacket over your t shirt and jeans look - the sleek belt, handbag and ankle boots or mules/heels will really kick things up a notch.
Belting is a sleek and sophisticated way to add some serious style to what is usually quite a casual jacket. We love playing with both belted and unbelted looks. It really gives you SO many options.
So there you have it. You are totally spoiled for choice. If you were previously sitting there wondering how the hell you would style a shearling jacket, now you have so many options just with these 8 tips. I could probably make 40 outfits from my current wardrobe with my shearling jacket just following the 8 tips above. Any item that can add that sort of versatility to your wardrobe is a no-brainer in my opinion! Check out some of our favourite items to style with these shearling coats here.
So happy shopping ladies and we can't wait to see you rocking your shearling jackets!
Lots of love
Courtney, Sally, Lily, Dani and Ebony xx
