Why every woman needs a great ankle boot
It's no secret we're massive fans of the ankle boot but do you know why?
1. They're funky and edgy - effortless style!
Ankle boots have a hard fashion edge that adds instant style to any outfit. It's the cut, the way they sit across the ankle, and their sleekness that does it for them. If you're ever feeling a bit plain, chances are you could throw an ankle boot on with that outfit and instantly it'll look and feel more fashion forward, better put together and more stylish.
2. They're versatile
Because of their length they go with almost anything - jeans, dresses, skirts, shorts. The options are endless! We particularly love them used to give a dress or mid length skirt a hard edge. We love that flirty balance of feminine and masculine. It's one of the most sophisticated styling techniques. Have a play with feminine and masculine and you'll see what we mean!
3. They're warm!
Let's face it, in winter, our trusty heels, flats and slides just won't do. If your feet are cold, the rest of you is cold (yes, I realise I sound like my grandmother right now but she had a point). We love that you can layer up in winter with an ankle boot and that is no longer an issue. Warm, dry feet no matter what weather you're encountering.
4. They're transeasonal
Ankle boots can be worn every month of the year except for those super hot days in summer where it looks a bit silly but otherwise, they are the perfect transeasonal shoe. Perfect for those shoulder seasons between summer and winter and we've already talked about how they're basically the only shoe I wear in winter - toasty toes? Yes, please!
5. They're comfortable
When we want to make a statement and finish off an outfit with a bang we often reach for our best statement heel - you don't have to! Ankle boots make just as much of a statement and show off your fashion know-how. Even with no heel! Yes, even with no heel. Flat ankle boots or ankle boots with a block heel are so common and much, much better for your ankles and back than a pointed stiletto or the slender heels commonly found on a high heel. Also, very rarely will you find an ankle boot with a 10+cm heel so they are much more comfortable to wear. And therefore perfect for those longer days and events that would normally make your feet sore in heels! (why do you think so many people wear them to concerts and music festivals? All of the reasons above!)
So how do you choose an ankle boot?
1. Genuine leather
Leather wears the best, stands the test of time, never looks cheap and moulds to the shape of your foot to offer comfort. We always look for leather ankle boots because they look better and last longer than other materials. And if you look after them, they'll look after you for years and years. We recommend spraying your new leather shoes with a good quality leather spray when you first receive them and then massaging a little leather cream into them every 6-12 months to keep them looking fresh and well protected.
2. Soles
Leather soles are lovely and lots of high end shoe manufacturers use them but they don't last. And if you don't have your shoes re-soled when needed the heels and edges of your shoes will end up ruined beyond repair. So look for thick, good quality man-made soles or have them re-soled with that to ensure your boots last and last. We are loving the Senso soles because they are nice and think and also sit proud of the edge of the ankle boots to protect their points, edges and the back of the ankles! Such clever design that deserves our support! Great manufacturers should be supported!
3. Good quality construction
Look at the joins, stitching and feel the weight and construction of your ankle boots. You will be able to feel if it's well made when you pick it up. The Senso ankle boots are weighty and beautifully constructed! We are so proud to bring them to you and know they will last you years and always help elevate the look of your outfits.
4. Timeless detailing
We love great detail but it needs to be timeless and great quality. The Senso ankle boots have great detail on them without making them "too trendy" that they won't last you many seasons. We particularly love the silver rings on the back of the Immi boots for both aesthetic and practical purposes (they help you pull them on!), the silver metal detail on the point of the Latoya and the cool logo tab on the back of the heel (also to assist in pulling them on) and the open back, silver buckling, contrasting panelling and great silver zip detail all the way around the base of the Lucas III.
All timeless details but details that set these Senso ankle boots apart!
So there you have it, our 5 reasons why a great quality pair of ankle boots are a MUST HAVE in your wardrobe and also the ways to tell if you are buying quality or not. Investing in quality pieces is not only more economically and financially beneficial for you, but it's better for the environment and it also supports people who are really good at what they do! So buy well, buy once!
Lots of love
Courtney, Sally, Lily, Dani and Ebony xx
